First Ereader Preintegrated with Google eBook Platform
7/11/2011
In December 2010 Google launched Google eBooks, its electronic bookstore. Now for the first time a wireless ereader will come preintegrated with the eBooks platform.
Target, www.target.com, will be the exclusive retailer for the new ereader from iriver, www.iriver.com, called the Story HD. The device will be available on July 17 and will retail for $139.99. Users can access the Google eBooks online storefront via the ereader’s Wi-Fi connection. Google says eBooks features hundreds of thousands of ebooks for sale and more than 3 million for free.
Google says eBooks also gives users the ability to read the platform’s books on any device with a modern browser, on Android and iOS devices using the Google Books mobile apps, through the Chrome Web Store app, and on compatible ereaders.
The iriver Story HD weighs 7.3 ounces and features an e-Ink screen, a QWERTY keyboard, and ports for SD card or USB.
