Chicago, IL Feb. 6, 2014: “Put a fork in the Internet of Things because it’s done,” says Peggy Smedley, editorial director of Connected World magazine, as part of her Mega Trends Forecast to be released during the Chicago Auto Show. The announcement will be delivered to the media on Friday, February 7, at 10:50 a.m. in the Connected World Conference Pavilion, found in the South Hall of the Chicago Auto Show in McCormick Place.
The Mega Trends Forecast involves connected devices, communications, carriers, networks, technology companies, and businesses and consumers who increasingly rely on this cyber ecosphere. Smedley’s Connected World magazine has been covering this space since 2003. M2M, her formerly published magazine, covered the business-to-business side of sensor and software driven machine-to-machine technology.
Additional Mega Trends to be announced and discussed include:
Merging Vision and Voice Technologies Creates Blended Tech
The Accelerating Displacement of Humans by Connected Technology
Retail as Entertainment: The Use of Gamification to Change the Customer Experience
The Rise of the Self-Monitored Individual
The View from Above: Drones
One of Smedley’s major trends involves the “death of the IoT (Internet of Things).” She has tracked the space for nearly two decades and believes that the term has been misapplied and is not inclusive or reflective of reality.
“What we are actually seeing is the standardization of the ecosystem. It’s simply GlobalMobilization. Our world is moving towards a more streamlined and ubiquitous approach to everything. It’s an ecosystem of increasingly standardized everyday devices that are tapping into powerful globally standardized LTE wireless networks to enable every aspect of our lives,” says Smedley.
The Connected World Conference is the global expo for the connected technologies that are transforming our professional and personal lives. The only expo that provides access to the players and the products in front of and behind the Internet of Things: discover not only what the devices are, but what makes them tick.
